As an employer in Charlottesville, you are invited to participate in our program to help raise the local wage standard. A living wage is defined as a wage range that allows workers to pay for basic necessities, such as food and housing, without assistance from others. Many factors are at play when it comes to a cost of living. We honor that the living wage range may not always be sufficient for workers to thrive. The Living Wage certification program serves as a lever to raise wage standards in traditionally low-wage sectors as well as encouraging patronage of businesses that pay their employees living wages.

Our base wage rate is at least $15 per hour for all employees.

If you have tipped employees, tips plus wages received from the employer must average at least $15/hour.

If an employer is certified as a living wage employer and later is no longer able to pay a living wage, the Living Wage Coalition of Central Virginia will remove the business/organization from our list without public announcement.
